It depends on how long you mean by ‘for a while’. It is certainly a good idea to conserve water by not emptying and filling the pool every day or every other day, but there are health hazards you should consider. Stagnant water will attract algae and bacteria, and young children typically swallow a lot of water while swimming. Stagnant water is also prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes and west nile virus. If you’re in doubt, it’s probably best to empty the pool, especially if it’s not being used daily.
