General work on an electric car is “projected” to be cheaper than on a conventional car. If you end up having a problem with the actual electric parts of the battery or engine, it will likely be much more expensive than a conventional car.
As there are thousands of mechanics currently trained to repair conventional cars (and likely several in any given area) there is competition. The one mechanic in your area that can fix your electric car, at least right now, may be able to charge more than if you could take it to any shop in town.
