I believe so. There isn’t any particular reverence for the day, but it does help spread awareness of environmental issues and encourages folks to get out into their communities and volunteer.
It is a great way to get children excited and involved with environmentalism. My elementary school used to plant trees on both Earth and Arbor days. Overall, it can help raise awareness to global issues that affect everyone. The more people care, the more they will conserve.
Humans naturally like excuses to party. Having an excuse to party AND talk seriously about ways to clean up the world is a rather nice bonus, wouldn’t you say?
