Is it economically worth it to recycle paper?

If you spend a lot of time on un-moderated Internet environmental forums, you will doubtless run into someone trying to convince that recycling does not actually save energy, isn’t economically viable, or something else along those lines.  The truth is that recycling most materials – including paper, plastic, and metals – results in huge benefits to the environment, and helps the economy.  According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, the paper recycling industry creates one job for every 523 tons of paper recovered for recycling.  The recycling industry produces many more jobs than does hauling garbage off to the landfill, and recycling facilities provide government programs with much-needed tax revenues.  So recycling paper is not only economically worthwhile – it’s a way to help our struggling economy.
