Water must reach deep into the ground to the plant’s roots in order to be effective. Using less water may not be sufficient to water the roots of the plant. It is also important to consider when to water your garden–watering late at night or early in the morning will take advantage of lower temperatures, higher humidity, and less water evaporation from the soil surface. It is also possible to directly inject the soil with water, thus eliminating any unnecessary watering of the surrounding soil.
