From an energy standpoint, yes, but only up to a point. Commercial production of meat takes a huge amount of energy, significantly more than for the production of plant material (chicken isn’t too bad, but beef can require well over 10 times the amount of energy). When you eat wild game, you are eating meat that did not consume food produced by fossil fuels. This is not a sustainable solution for everyone, however, because if we switched all meat consumption to wild game, it would have disruptive effects on the ecosystem, especially if the change were done quickly.
