Is it a bad idea to take an Emergen-C and a multi-vitamin in the same day?

Emergen-C contains vitamin C, B vitamins, magnesium and zinc. Combining this with a multi-vitamin is probably fine. But, you should monitor the amounts you are getting of all of these vitamins and minerals, to be sure you’re ingesting a safe amount. Speak with your doctor if you are unsure.

Talk with your doctor first. in most cases this should be fine. You might just be making expensive pee. lol. If you read Emergen-C is stays you can take more than one packet a day. So an Emergen-C and a multi-vitamin should be fine.

This should be fine. When you take vitamin C, your body absorbs as much as it can and passes the rest. Your urine might look and smell a little different after taking a lot of vitamin C. It’s recommended that you curb the vitamin C intake if you start having diarrhea. That’s a sign your body wants it out. As for the other vitamins in Emergen-C and multivitamins, some can be harmful in high doses, but it is doubtful you’ll be able to get a high enough dose to be dangerous in just one multivitamin and one Emergen-C.

If you do this once or twice or occasionally when sick, it shouldn’t be a problem, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a daily regimen.  Take note that you CAN take too much zinc, (see excessive zinc here) and B, despite the fact B is water soluble, (click here for more about that.)  The best way to get vitamins is from a balanced diet, but if you’re run down and thinking of taking another packet, think about eating an extra orange for C too.
