Is it bad for humans to breathe in methane?

Methane is an asphyxiant, it can be harmful to humans in larger quantities simply because it displaces oxygen available in the air. Methane is a naturally occurring gas and in most instances is not toxic for humans to breathe. As an interesting aside methane can be produced by bacteria which decompose fecal matter in the small intestine, the accumulation of this gaseous methane may or may not result in a fart(Some consider these to be toxic fumes).
