Yes and No. Small amounts of chemicals in the water is not really a problem as it is so diluted. Unfortunately with every sink in the world washing not only hand soap but dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo, ect ect ect it isn’t so diluted anymore. Our water treatment facilities aren’t really set up to remove personal care product contaminates before the water is introduced back to the environment. Recently scientists have noticed large quantities of personal care product chemicals in the food chain and it can’t be good for wildlife.
There are many eco options though. Look for non-toxic biodegradable soaps. Seventh Generation and Method are wildly available at national retailers like Target.
