While the camels themselves are not actually solar powered, many carry solar panels on their backs. In Kenya, these panels are used to power minifridges bearing heat senstitive medicines.
I have not found anything indicating that this practice is in use in Israel. Instead, I have seen camels with solar panels draped over their backs as advertisement during the Israeli Energy Conference. Solar is turing out to be a big industry in Israel, especially on kibbutzim.
Good question. When I went to Israel they were talking about doing this. I believe it is a great idea and allows nomads to get good, clean electricity. Who knows this could help out millions of people who live in the desert!
