Is the ink in squid very similar to the ink in an octopus?

    Both squid and octopus belong to the animal class Cephalopoda. Most cephalopods, with only a few exceptions, can extrude a dark pigement (e.g. “ink) as part of an escape mechanism. The exact chemical composition does vary between species, however its main constituents remain the same: melanin and mucus.
