Vandana Shiva is one of the world’s most fascinating activists, Indian or not. A physicist, author, and founder of Navdanya (a movement for the use of native seeds in agriculture), she is an extremely influential voice in environmental justice. Much of her work has to do with agriculture, women’s rights, and water.

Medha Patkar works with villages across the Narmada Valley to develop alternative water, energy, and education systems. As a convener of the National Alliance of People’s Movements, she fights globalizing/liberalizing policies in favor of these local alternative systems.

Kartikeya Sarabhai is a leader of green education and industry. He is the founder of India’s Centre for Environmental Education, the editor of the Journal of Education for Sustainable Development, and a member of the Earth Charter International Council and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
