Imagine that a utility is digging deep into the earth for a geothermal power plant, and they happen to strike oil. Is that scenario likely, and is there any chance that the renewable plant would still get built?

Quite possibly, as the permitting would probably already be established, and it would be difficult if even possible to get a change on permitting – not to say that the petroleum would not be taken advantage of in some way, but I feel that the interest in geothermal would be driven sincerely, and continue to point.
