Ignoring distribution problems, how many people could live healthy lives using the resources currently produced worldwide?

The world produces more calories per person now than in 1979, even though the world’s population has grown by 70% in the same amount of time. According to the World Hunger Education Service, poverty is the primary cause of hunger: nearly one billion people still live on less than $1 a day. This is just one resource, however. Water and fuel are also important factors. If all 6.6 billion earthlings lived and consumed as much as the average American, there is no possible way one planet could support us.
