If you are watching a sunset by the ocean why do the clouds always get brighter after the sun goes down?

When we see a sunset, the Sun has already dropped below the horizon.  The Earth’s atmosphere then “bends” the rays of the sun and delays a sunset by roughly 3 minutes.  This works the same way for a sunrise.  We see a natural light reflecting off the cloud before we see the shape of the sun in the morning.  This natural light reflection actually adds 5-10 minutes per day of sunshine.
