If we somehow completely got rid of coal to generate electricity and found an entirely clean alternative, then it might be. The production of electricity accounts for roughly 40% of global CO2 emissions, so it would certainly have a huge impact. However there are some studies by the NOAA that suggest that too much CO2 has been absorbed by our oceans and our planet – so trade offs with the atmosphere and these components could potentially keep global warming in play for up to another 1,000 years even if CO2 emissions were halted completely.
