It is impossible to say whether the rain forests would be destroyed by now without conservation efforts. It is, however, a likely possibility that even less of the world’s rain forests would remain today if it were not for these conservation efforts. Rain forests once covered approximately 15% of the world’s land surface; today these forests cover less than 6% of the earth’s exterior. According to Rainforest Facts, these remaining forests will be on the verge of extinction within forty years, regardless of current conservation efforts.
