If we can keep our carbon rates where they are now will the earth figure out a way to fix itself?

I assume that by “carbon rates” you mean rate of carbon dioxide emissions. Extensive studies have been done modeling future temperatures under various emission scenarios. If we don’t cut down emissions sharply, we will face a variety of unfortunate scenarios. Eventually, the earth will indeed cycle out most of the carbon and return to its normal state, but only after humans are long gone. In the shorter term (the next few thousand years) it’s clear immediate action needs to be taken to secure a viable future.
