Problems with evaporation in irrigating crops may have less to do with how high the water is sprayed, than with the volume of water. Water mist that you see surrounding high sprinkler-style systems is evaporating, and a low system would help reduce this. A drip irrigation system loses almost no water to evaporation or runoff because it is more focused specifically on the ground where the plants need them.
