There’s a difference between “works” and “works cheaply and well”. Right now, carbon sequestration technology is in its infancy, and there is a high chance that it will leak. Even if we are to assume it works perfectly, it’s going to be expensive. Private firms won’t do it at all unless they are forced to, because their bottom line doesn’t care about the environment. Carbon sequestration may have a place if it becomes more economically viable AND a cap-and-trade bill or some similar legislation is passed.
