If fish need oxygen to live like we do, why do they die when they are out of the water?

Fish can breathe the oxygen absorbed in the water through their gills, they are not evolved to use gaseous oxygen as they breathe. Same reason as humans can’t breathe underwater, our lungs aren’t made for it.
