Well, you want to act quickly and try to treat affected area by washing off the skunk oil from that part of the body. Some suggest you should shave that portion of fur that has been sprayed if possible. Most importantly you want to give your dog a bath a couple of times to assure you get the oil off your dogs fur but careful not to spread the skunk oil to non sprayed areas of the dog and infect it with the skunk smell. You want to make sure to preferably wash your dog quickly before it has to time to dry or the dog has gone to its bed and put skunk oil in other places of your house. If you allow the skunk smell to dry, there is possibility that your dog will smell skunky for up to 2 years.
