If airports made baggage claims smaller would it be more efficient?

Airports aren’t likely to make big changes to their baggage claim areas in the interest of efficiency. Airports must remain open for business every day, and shutting down sections of baggage claim for construction isn’t an option. Baggage clam tracks need to be large enough to handle the largest flights that the airport serves. The equipment used to run the baggage claim systems, even including gas-powered luggage carts, isn’t significant compared to other concerns at the airport, like security and air traffic management.
