If I get a 4cylinder engine in a bigger car will it be as efficient as a little bigger engine?

The general rule with smaller engines is that the smaller they are, the more efficient they are. I would say that in terms of gas mileage, the 4 cylinder would be the more efficient choice, but you would be losing some performance capabilities in the car. If you don’t mind slower accelerations and lower top speeds, then the 4 cylinder engine should be fine. If you want to be able to accelerate well, say for instance while merging, there are very efficient six cylinders engines out there.
