If I bring a Britta water filter with me when I go camping or hiking is it enough to clean the water for drinking?

Probably not. According to Britta’s FAQ for their water pitcher system:

“Brita Pitcher Filters are intended to be used only with municipally treated tap water or well water that is regularly tested to be microbiologically safe.”

I would suggest purchasing a backpacking water filter from a store like REI or A-16.

I don’t think that the Brita filter is sufficient for the quality of water that you may encounter while backpacking.

For backpacking filters look at Katadyn filters, MSR filters and Berkey Water filters.
