Alligators have very powerful jaws, but the jaw muscle is designed for biting and gripping prey. Compared to the muscles used for closing its jaw, the alligator’s muscles for opening it are relatively weak. A man can thus easily hold an alligator’s jaws shut, and in fact could even do so with a piece of duct tape!
