Wolf hunting is currently legal in Idaho and Montana, and it is likely that when the Endangered Species Act protections of wolves are lifted in Wyoming, it will be legal there as well. Most of Idaho allows hunting from August 30 to March 31, and trapping from November 15 to March 31. Montana has an archery season starting September 3 and a rifle season starting September 15. Idaho will keep over 150 wolves out of approximately 1000 currently in the state, while Montana will allow 220 out of 566 wolves to be hunted.
It is also legal in Alaska to hunt wolves as the wolf population has always remained at a high number.
