I was at the zoo the other day and saw something about a hook at the end of a lions tail, what is that all about?

Lions all have a tuft of fur on the end of their tale, where there exists a ‘spur’ of sorts. It’s essentially an extra vertebrae, that was thought to once have a claw used in fighting –as if they need anything but their claws and teeth. =)
