Well, I’m not an expert on the spill, but here are some facts about it. The spill started on April 20, 2010 due to an explosion on one of the oil rigs in the gulf. It spilled about 210,000 gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico every day for the past few months. This is the equivalent of about an olympic sized swimming pool worth of oil every 3 days, so it is a ridiculous amount. The spill was capped on July 15th, and so far it has held. However, before being capped, the well leaked 90.4-178.6 million gallons of oil into the gulf, and it is traveling towards the shores, much of which has already made it there.
