Only certain types of fish can survive in cold weather. The fish that have died in Florida from the cold are warm water fish. The cold spell that lasted about 10 days brought the water temperature they live in (shallow lakes pretty much) to a temperature they cannot survive in. The fish farmers say 50% of their fish have died so far.
Yes, these fish, like many other species of animals are having their environments change beyond a limit in which they are capable to adapt. Unlike humans, animals cannot simply change their surroundings when thye do not suit them. Animals become adapted to a very specific environment, and when that alters a bit, the survival is threatened.
