I read that the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that global winds could provide as much as 15 times the world’s energy consumption! If this is true, then why aren’t governments focusing more on wind power projects?

It’s no secret that renewable energy is plentiful. Solar energy could provide even more than that – many thousands of times the world’s energy consumption. The key is that wind energy, like all other renewable sources, is expensive. Installing the turbines and transmission lines cost money. Additionally, we have to deal with issues like NIMBY (people don’t like to live next to wind farms) and the fact that wind power is intermittent.

Nevertheless, wind energy is certainly still a very good idea, and one that governments should indeed pursue with more vigor (and money!).
