I heard that homeowners use more pesticides per acre than farmers. How is this possible?

Difficult to find the statistics to answer this question…however, this website states that homeowners used 90-102 million pounds of pesticides (insecticides, herbicides, fungicides) v. 700 million pounds of pesticides (herbicides, nematicides and fumigants, insecticide, miticides, fungicides). To me, this contrast means that homeowners are using more for their much smaller space than farmers/agriculture with their multi-acre applications.

The EPA website has even more information about pesticides, safety and use.
