Apparently, used hamster, guinea pig and rabbit bedding makes very good compost! It’s because the feces of these animals contain nitrogen, an important requirement for plant growth. Just put it around your plants and keep it damp.
I would never have thought so, but even the local pet store in Portland Oregon is able to have the city pick up their compost three times a week. The animal care employees simply dump all the animal bedding from hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and birds into a large recycle bin that is put outside at the appointed time.
