In general, Black Walnut trees start producing walnuts at about 10 years old.  Te best nut production doesn’t start until its about 30 years old.  Good nut production usually occurs in 2 of every 5 years.  However, nut numbers, frequency of crops, and nut quality vary by tree.  Often open-grown trees produce more nuts than those grown in wooded areas.
