Hydroponic growing is indeed more efficient than soil-based farming in a number of ways. Because it works within a closed system where plants are given water and nutrients directly, the water can be recycled and never wasted. Likewise nutrients are not lost or wasted whereas in a soil-based system some nutrients are inevitably lost. Additionally it offers efficiency through higher crop yields and because it allows agriculture to exist in places without soil.
