Is the humpback chub nearly extinct?

There are two places that humpback chub live: Colorado and Arizona, in the Colorado River. In Colorado, the chub is listed as threatened, and nationally (federally) the chub is listed as endangered. In order to be de-listed from the endangered species list, there need to be at least 5 viable, stable populations of chub. So far, there aren’t 5. The problem is diversion of water by people, which lowers water temperature and makes it incredibly hard for them to move around.
