Is human urine bad for water (e.g., lake, stream). I understand that feces is very bad, but what about urine?

    Human urine can be bad for water systems depending on the concentration. Large amounts of urine released into water can can cause a high concentration of ammonia, which can be toxic to aquatic life, although toxicity also depends on other factors.

    One example of a problem with ammonia is in Canada where a couple of cities release household urine untreated into waterways. According to the CBC article cited below, “blooms of harmful algae and seaweed […] are choking up sewage treatment plant pipes and harbours and bays”
