The human body is one organism. But the body does have many organisms, such as bacteria on our skin and in our digestive tract, that exist because of symbiosis or commensalism. Symbiosis means that both our body and that organism benefit from each other’s existence and functions. Commensalism means that one organism benefits without harming the other, and in most cases it is the microorganism that benefits by living on our tissues without harming the organs of the human body.
