How would the Ecosphere six inches in diameter need to be modified to become sustainable for 100 years?

They don’t say why the Ecosphere only lasts an average of two years. I would guess that bacteria that was present in it’s creation overpopulates, the shrimp population isn’t perfectly matched with the food source, or there is some other slight chemical imbalance that is exaggerated over time. In order to live for 100 years, there would need to be a near-perfect balance between the different elements in the sphere. It would also have to be much bigger to support a shrimp population that reproduces, instead of one generation of shrimp.
