How were the pyramids built?

It is believed that pharaohs ordered the construction of pyramids as soon as they assumed the throne. Between 20,000 and 30,000 laborers are needed to build these great pyramids and can take up to 20 years to complete. How these pyramids were actually constructed is still unclear but many believe that “it is likely that a sloping embankment was built up to or around the pyramid. The huge blocks may then have been hauled on sledges with the aid of rollers, papyrus ropes and levers.”
