How was BP’s safety record before the oil spill?

According to an article written in May, 2010, BP’s Alaskan North Slope pipelines has major cause for safety concern.  In 2006 a 4,800 barrel oil spill shut down Prudhoe Bay drilling field pipeline temporarily.  Between 2008-2009 multiple cases of clogged or failed pipelines were reported causing concern of possible explosions.  Failed equipment, stuck cleaning pig – allowing a large amount of gas into a pump station, and a 2005 blast at a refinery in Texas, is just some of the safety concerns that have come to light.  Experts feel BP’s costs cuts are impeding the safety of it’s facilities.
