The U.S Department of Agriculture has recently put into effect the Biomass Crop Assistant Program, which encourages farmers to plant crops that can be used for biofuel, such as switchgrass, miscanthus, jatropha, algae and pongamia. Farmers are also offered subsidies for transporting their crops to refineries that convert the feedstocks into fuel.
