In 2009, UPS introduced 245 natural gas vehicles to its fleet, bringing its worldwide total of alternative vehicles to 1,883. Their hybrid diesel/electric trucks improved efficiency by 28.9%. The company also signed a document signaling its willingness to use biofuels for jet engines in the future. UPS also offers the option for customers to purchase carbon offsets for their shipping-the money goes to causes like wastewater treatment and methane destruction. On the Climate Counts scorecard, UPS was ranked #1 for shipping.
