The UN tries to encourage poorer nations to alter from forests and begin using different production material for their products and structures. The problem is that because the countries have such little money it would be very difficult for them to change what resources that use since it would cost a good deal of money to switch over and acquire the new products. For this to be feasible, the countries would have to incur an enormous amount of debt, which would not help them to use better and more sustainable technologies, or for rich countries like the U.S., China, etc… to lend them money and resources so they can more easily begin the transition. Besides this the UN can’t do much accept point a finger at the countries who log their forests.
