Recent studies on the chemical triclosan indicates that it may lead to endocrine disruptions in the body and may also cause the emergence of drug-resistant “super” bacteria.
Due to the findings of these studies, the FDA is now reevaluating the safety of the chemical.
Triclosan, a popular chemical additive used in many everyday products, can be considerably harmful to humans, as it can disrupt endocrine function. The chemical can also cause other dangers, such as acute toxicity, allergy links, and environmental effects. Triclosan may also cause harm to aquatic ecosystems, promote resistant bacteria growth, and effect developmental growth. The Natural Resources Defense Council actually believes that the chemical should be restricted, and the FDA has been working on establishing rules for its use.
