Irrigation waste water often contains a lot of pesticides and other chemicals used to treat fertilizer. This degrades the quality of drinking water, making it harmful for consumption as well as just plain harmful for the environment. I would check out the link about an enzyme-based product that can break down harmful chemicals by turning them into non-toxic byproducts – a process called bioremediation. It can be applied to both water and soil contaminated by chemicals including pesticides. However, treating groundwater is much more difficult.
