Thunder is the sound produces when lightening strikes occur. The pitch and sound of thunder is dependent on the nature of the strike and the distance from the strike. Thunder is caused by the rapid increase in pressure and temperature of the air caused by the lightening, which causes a shock wave making the sound you know as thunder.
