Rhino skin is generally 18-20mm thick (3/4 inch) in the thinnest parts of the skin. However, in certain parts, like the shoulders of the white Rhino for example, the skin has a minimal thickness of 45mm (1 3/4 inch).
A rhino’s skin ranges from 18mm to 45 mm thick. Despite its thickness, the skin is sensitive and prone to sunburn and insect bites. Rolling around in the mud helps protect them from these uncomfortable circumstances.
