Bamboos are one of the fastest growing woody plants in the world. They are capable of growing up to 24 inches per day due to a unique rhizome dependent system. They sometimes can reach a maximal growht rate exceeding one meter per hour for short periods of time. Many prehistoric bamboos exceeded heights of 85 meters. The tallest bamboo species can grow over hundred feet tall which are called the giant bamboo (Dendrocalamus)
