How sustainable are electric cars?

This would depend on the batteries used and the system for charging and replacing them. There may not be enough resources to make tons of car batteries that are high enough capacity to function on a high level of performance that people expect from their cars. How the batteries are disposed of will also be an important issue.

Right now, they are not very sustainable with their current design. The creation of the cars and resource use is not a closed cycle because it still creates a lot of waste and a lot of demand for electricity (that may not always be cleanly produced because renewable sources of energy may not be able to keep up with the demand).
